Videogame Market Continues Record-Breaking
Growth Outpacing Box Office and DVD Sales

For a third straight year, the videogame market showed record-breaking growth, with the 2007 console, portable and PC game industry reaching $18.8 billion and total February year-on-year sales up 34% to $1.3 billion. Beating out box office and DVD sales combined, the videogame market is not only mainstream, it is the leading entertainment media among young males.

And as gaming has moved mainstream, so have the next-generation of consoles that allow the downloading of high-def and Blu-Ray television shows and movies directly through the console to the TV. So it’s no surprise then that gamers have proven to be a leading consumer of mainstream entertainment to watch on their consoles. According to a recent NPD study, out of 10,000 US consumers polled, 58 percent of core gamers said they bought a DVD in the last six months and 46 percent bought a CD.

With a monthly audience of 10.2 million gamers across the industry’s leading targeted ad environments, Future’s print and web properties provide consumer advertisers unparalleled access to this powerful audience of leading consumers of mainstream media.
